Wedding of A Miao Couple
In October 2020, while on a field trip to a Miao village in Xiangxi, Hunan, I had the fortunate opportunity to witness a wedding of a Miao couple. During Miao weddings, it is customary for the bride and groom to engage in a singing ritual with all the relatives and friends who have come to celebrate. As they enter the village through its sole entrance, the newlyweds, along with their families, arrange themselves to perform this singing ritual, which is a way to welcome the guests. They do not partake in the singing themselves but must host and provide drinks to the celebrants. The following photos were taken during this unique occasion:
