“The Northern Barn” won the bronze medal at the 14th National Photographic Art Exhibition.
“The Oroqen Village Status Quo,” a group of four photographs, was selected for the 15th National Photographic Art Exhibition.
My life is filled with bittersweet experiences. In 1969, I responded to the call of educated youth to go to the countryside from Shanghai to the rural areas of Aihui County in Heilongjiang Province. Five years later, I started to work as a high school teacher, and then became a policeman at the public security bureau. In 1984, I was transferred to the Armed Forces of Heilongjiang Provincial General Corps to work as a photojournalist. I am now a fulltime photographer after retiring from my previous job. In 2023, I won 25 gold medals in interantional photo competitions.
At this stage of life, I felt that it is important to look for the wonderful beauty from the positive point of view. I use the punctuation marks to describe the different stages during the photographic creation. I use comma to represent the process to shoot from a new angle, and period means that visual impact improvement is achieved. When I share the work with viewers, it is a question mark. Things learned during photo tour is the exclamation mark!
Revitalization of Oroqen People in Xinganling Regions
The Oroqen, one of China’s 55 officially recognized ethnic minority groups, once lived as nomadic hunters in the harsh climate of Xinganling region in China. In 1953, only two thousand people moved out of the mountains and it has been 70 years so far. I started to document their life in1982, and the photos made in the past 40 years are good juxtaposition of their life in these years. With the policies from the Communist Party, the Oroqen people has incomes from the agricultural by-products and non-hereditary inheritance of tourist attractions, entering a new era on the road to prosperity.
