Backyards in Berlin, by Volker Frenzel

 In Berlin, the classic backyards are found in areas with older buildings. Most of these houses are only up to 6 storeys high and have been renovated in recent years, but have retained their old character.

Walking through the gate, you leave the busy street and find yourself in a microcosm.

Toys lie around as if the children have just been called to dinner. You find areas to relax and small shops. Someone has dumped their old car, but you can also meet undisturbed.

Often the gates are locked and so it requires patience and perseverance to get good pictures.
