Bangkok by night, Volker Frenzel, Germany
It’s hot, it’s loud and it’s colourful.
These attributes describe what is happening in the city very accurately.
The traffic swirls around you. The ubiquitous tuk tuks, a kind of motorbike rickshaw,
and the mopeds scurry criss-cross through the city. Zebra crossings and traffic lights serve more as advice than commands. The permanent traffic jam rush hour can only be avoided by using the elevated and underground railway.
The buses are only of limited help. People are eating and cooking everywhere. A few tables are quickly tables are quickly set up in the alley and the gas cooker is fired up. Pe ople live on the street. The air conditioning is running at full blast and are set far too cold.
Mobile phones are omnipresent. The traders use them to place orders and the motorbike taxis use them to find their way through the through the many small alleyways.
The car parks are still monitored by guards. Here, too, pets serve as a substitute for children. There is an industry for animal-friendl products that we know for small children.
This city is exciting and there is so much to discover.
