Luo Yun holds a GPU Aphrodite title. Photos in this series were created during a visit in a village in southwest China’s Yunnan province where the women of the Derung ethnic group carried on this unique tradition of face tattoo for hundreds of years. Up to now, fewer than 20 Derung women are still alive today. The photo of the granny in this series is 90 years old, and she is the eldest face-tattooing woman alive. She doesn’t see well and have illness on the legs. She looks lonely but full of stories. With the help of the grandchild, she stumbles across the room to get to the door. The other granny is in her 80s.
