My name is Jan Hammerstad, and I have been deeply passionate about photography since I first picked up a camera at the age of 13. I have explored various genres within photography, but today, I focus primarily on portrait and model photography.
Photography, to me, is not just about capturing a moment. It’s about creating a connection, telling a story, and evoking emotion. I believe that the most compelling images come from the collaboration between the photographer and the subject. Communication with the model is at the heart of this process. By establishing trust, I am able to capture genuine expressions and portray the essence of the person in front of the lens. I believe that a good photograph stems from a genuine connection between the photographer and the subject. This collaboration brings out the best expressions, making each image unique and meaningful.
I see photography as an art form—a way to explore the beauty of light, color, and form. Whether I am working on a fashion shoot, a commercial project, or a personal portrait session, I approach each image with the same dedication to creativity and technical precision. I play with shadows, I experiment with angles, and I strive to create images that are not only visually stunning but also thought-provoking.
My work is guided by a philosophy that reflects my deep love for the craft:
I love pictures simply for their beauty. I love photo stories. I love the language of advertising.
I play with light and shadows. I play with colors. I play with shapes.
I work with fashion. I work with commercials. I work with portraits.
I observe people. I take pictures of people. I display people.
I am catching the moment. I am shaping the moment. I am making pictures.
I photograph!
Through my photography, I aim not just to document, but to interpret and create. Every photograph is an opportunity to capture a fleeting moment and make it last forever. Whether it’s the subtle emotion in a model’s face or the perfect play of light on a subject, my goal is to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. For me, the true magic of photography lies in its power to reveal something new and unexpected in every shot.
