About the Photos
Urban villages refer to rural villages that have evolved into residential areas during the process of urbanization due to the expropriation of arable land and the conversion of farmers into residents who still reside in the original villages. Wangyue Village is a typical urban village. Most of the indigenous people here have already moved out, leaving behind these diverse old houses. Many of them are migrant workers who have been living here for more than 20 years. Urban villages generally have outdated residential facilities and many management problems. It is called a ‘village in the city’. However, the residents here are optimistic and peaceful, with inner peace. Walking through it, one can feel this simplicity and sincerity. They seem to be a bit fatalistic waiting for the day to change their fate.
