Balachandder SK was born in Tiruchirappalli born in 1957 & from 1958, living in Chennai, India. He completed master’s degree in Mathematics from Vivekananda College, Madras in 1980. He joined State Bank of India in 1983 and retired in 2017 as Senior Special Associate.
His passion for Photography was highly encouraged and well utilised by the Bank till his retirement. His 40+ years of passionate journey as a Photographer started in 1979.
His Salon participation started in the Film era in 1988 which was a very successful year for him with many awards and continued up to 1994 and then his interests shifted towards Commercial, Wedding & Event Photography. As a traditional Wedding Photographer, he has covered more than 1500 weddings and its interlinked functions and ceremonies so far.
His coverage of 1980 Total Solar Eclipse was published in local Magazines in Chennai. Many of his works in the form of transparencies, Prints and Digital Images were published in the Covers of monthly magazines, in-house magazines all over India, Calendars and Audio Cassettes and Audio CDs. From 2000, for more than two years, his Photographs were published in the Covers of monthly magazine “Andhra Prabha” from Andhra Pradesh.
Many of his Photos and transparencies were used by other eminent Photographers for Teaching basic and advanced Photography. He won many awards at regular intervals in Chennai, organised by many Companies and Newspapers.
He gave Solo Prints Exhibition in 1990, 1992.
He has so far participated over 950 National and International Salons (including Film Era) and accumulated overall 5000 acceptances+ from 1988 till date with more than 450+ awards till date…He has more than 23 Honours/Distinctions from 12 Countries.
He now continues as a fulltime freelance Photographer as well as a mentor to Salon participants, teaching Photography, apart from being a Jury in about 15 International Salons in the last two years.
His Club, Photographic Society of Madras, Chennai has won more than 30 Best Club Awards under his Salon mentorship with the participation of about 30 members.
His major interests in Photography now, are, People, Festivals, Street, Portraiture, Fine art, Still Life etc…
His advice to youngsters: “Shoot a lot of pictures. Experiment. Do not go out with preconceptions of what a picture will look like.
That will block you from being receptive to something new and exciting.”
His Motto: ” Freeze every moment of LIFE & Enjoy it Image by Image, Frame by Frame”.
He enjoys fellowship more than his Photography by helping his fellow Photographers to share his knowledge of this fine art to the maximum.
