Zhu Quantang was born in January 1963.He began to study photography in 1989.From September 1996 to July 2013, he worked in local publicity department, and later served as the head of the provincial and municipal party newspapers in Maiji District, engaged in photographic reporting.
More than 50 photographs have been exhibited and won prizes at home and abroad, Among them, the photographic work“Landscape of Maiji Mount”was exhibited in the 18th Pingyao International Photography Exhibition, and in the Yixian International Photo Exhibition in October 2019;“Zhou Dance of Baima Tibetans”exhibited in the 15th Yixian International Photo Exhibition in 2020. Many other works have been exhibited in Taiwan China, Shenzhen, Singapore, South Korea, Greece, New York, USA and other regions and countries. He is Chairman and Party Branch Secretary of Tianshui City Photographers Association. He is a member of Chinese Folklore Photography Association, and Gansu Photographers Association, Global Photographic Union (GPU), Royal Photographic Society and Photographic Society of New York.

Maiji Mountain locates about 50 kilometers south of Tianshui City, Gansu. It is a solitary peak in Xiaoshan Mountain and is 142 meters tall. The name of the mountain, Maiji, in Chinese means “piled sheaves of wheat”. Maiji Mountain is of typical Danxia landform,1,742 meters above sea level. There are 221 caves with10,632 clay sculptures and more than 1,300 square meters of murals. It is famous for its exquisite clay sculpture art, known as the Oriental Sculpture Art Exhibition Hall. Maijishan Grottoes is one of the four largest grottoes in China, and the other three are Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Longmen Grottoes, and Yungang Grottoes. It is also the most beautiful among many caves and temples in China and is most famous for its seven Buddha Pavilions, Ten Thousand Buddha Cave. Maijishan grottoes retain a variety of information on religion, art, and architecture, presenting in the form of vivid Buddha statues and murals about Buddhist stories, reflecting the spiritual enlightenment of Buddhism in the real world. Therefore, from the perspective of the Buddhist culture carrier, Maijishan Grottoes is undoubtedly a three-dimensional “Buddhist Culture Exhibition Hall” with a history of more than 1600 years. It has promoted Buddhist culture for thousands of years, becoming one of the four famous grottoes in China. Tianshui, located in the southeast of Gansu province, has been an essential stop with strategic military importance on Silk Road since ancient times. The city spans the Yangtze River and Yellow River basins, and the new Eurasian train runs through the city. There are four distinct seasons, cool in summer and warm in winter. The landscape is beautiful and charming. The author spent more than 30 years photographing the natural scenery around Maiji Mountain in Tianshui.
