About the Photos:
Xinzhou People’s Homes
This group of photos was shot in a village in Xinzhou, Shanxi, China.
The doors of each household and the details in their courtyards represent the preferences and attitudes toward life of the homeowners. Different people live behind different doors, and people with different lifestyles have their own unique courtyards. Through diptych of images outside and inside these doors, I intend to present the daily lives and attitudes of the people living in these small courtyards through small details.
Sometimes, documenting life through photography doesn’t require capturing every aspect of the subjects’ daily activities. Reflecting on the details can bring us closer to them, allowing us to experience and imagine more about their lives.
