Photography has been Bandu’s passion since his school age.   He has performed as a mentor in numerous local Photography Workshops and Seminars organized by government departments, non govt organizations, private sector institutions, schools, photo clubs and universities in Sri Lanka. He also has served as an international judge in various international photo competitions.

Presently Gunaratne is working as a visiting lecturer of Photography accomplished for six consecutive years at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka; as a lecturer at Sri Lanka College of Journalism and the National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka. He was conferred with prestigious ‘Kalabhushana’ once in lifetime award by the government of Sri Lanka last year as a tribute to his services rendered to the field of Photography.

Gunaratne is the Country Leader for Crossing Bridges – Photography Community of nine Asian countries and is the Country representative and World Photography Center Director for Global Photographic Union.
